| Projects | LIKE SKILLS EDUCATION: Programmes provide training for primary and high school children as well as out of school youth. The structured programmes aim at heightening self-awareness, building self-esteem, choices, providing knowledge and information abut sew and sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases (HIV/Aids), and relationship dynamics. Communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills are enhanced through this programme. PEER COUNSELLING TRAINING: provides school-going youth with mediation, counselling and conflict resolution and community development skills. The trained youth offer holiday programmes, Buddy Programmes and counselling services to their school mates. They also organize awareness campaigns on burning issues such as drugs and alcohol abuse, HIV/Aids and fundraise for local organisations for example old age homes and children’s homes. This service is supervised by trained social workers. HOMEWORK/AFTER CARE CENTRES AND HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES: The programmes aim to provide constructive, creative activities for children and assist them to develop skills in order to improve school performance. The programmes provide an alternative to the streets. The Successful “Rising Star” programme in Westbury, creates skills, self development and self awareness. VIOLENCE AND GENDER ISSUES AWARENESS PROGRAMME. South Africa is experiencing a vast increase in rape and abuse in the school environment. Gender sensitivity programmes are aimed at reducing the incidence of rape and abuse. Gender violence includes: Sexual harassment and abuse, Bullying, intimidating and threats, verbal abuse – taunts and insults, physical violence and assault, emotional abuse, psychological abuse. CHILD ABUSE PROGRAMME: Violence and Crime prevention programmes, Victim Empowerment, Capacity Building with Adults, Parenting Groups and Reconstruction / Therapeutic Services. |
