Projects
| Projects | Thembalabantwana - Hope of our children (HIV/AIDS). Addressing the needs of children affected by HIV and AIDS by strengthening families to protect, care for and develop all children especially those affected by HIV. 24hour HELPKIDS Hotline and rapid response unit: National toll-free telephone line for children and carers in crisis. Linked to 2-ways radio units held by qualified social workers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Prevention of child abuse and neglect (Isolabantwana - Eye of the Child): Isolabantwana is a community-based child protection programme. Community members are identified and trained to become accredited (after training and examinations approved by the Commissioner of Child Welfare) to detect, prevent and deal with cases of child abuse after hours, when they are most vulnerable. Emergency Care: Providing temporary emergency care for babies and children who have been abandoned, neglected and or abused whilst alternative permanent care is sought. The success of Emergency Care relies entirely on community participation. The Care of Children Outside their families: Arranging alternative care, where absolutely necessary in the form of traditional and non-traditional adoption and foster care placements within the community for orphaned, abandoned, abused and neglected children and babies. Educare and Skills Development: Training and developing community members to provide educare, protective and developmental services for pre-school children. We also run 4 educare centres for children from disadvantaged communities. Community Development: Capacity building and empowerment programmes, including job skills and parent training projects to help communities develop their capacity to meet their own needs and take care of, develop and protect their children. |
